I had a pretty bad incident occur this past week that caused me to pause and question this whole thing called parenthood. Choices we make for our children, actions that we model, placing role models in our kids lives; all there to help our children to become great adults.
At times we make huge mistakes, but I think those mistakes are far out-numbered by the loving and nurturing environment that we try to create for our children.
It is our responsibility to help our children experience the good, the bad and the ugly, learn from those experiences and hopefully, make good choices when we aren't around.
Matt is on his way. The roller coaster years are ahead of us and what fun it will be! Conversations are inquisitive. Laughter is abundant. And the moodiness is showing! All right on track to becoming a young adult!
We're proud of you Matt. Go set the world on fire!
Love,
Mom

Jane, Ilove your blog - you are a great writer and so interesting. You social with soup, salad & wine sounds like it was fun!! Next weekend I am off to Leesburg, VA with Stacey, Sherri & Heather for a girls weekend. We are staying at a spa and going to a wine & soup paring. I'm so excited to be part of it!! Happy Birthday to your guy! love your beautifully stated sentiments. looks to me like he's doing great - you are a wonderful mama. Have a fun weekend!
It is hard, isn't it? I am always finding myself surprised that one never get to be "done" parenting. And we never will be - they are going to be 40 and we're gonna be worrying about them, their choices, ours, and what we did wrong along the way. It's very tiring. I do try to "forget" this once in awhile - the only way I can face the many long years ahead... and sometimes it even works, and then something happens and I am surprised by it all over again. You just have to take some comfort in knowing that everyone is going through some version of it, and you do the best you can with what you have at the time. Or something. Anyway. Happy, happy 13 to Matt. And his mom.
Thanks Sarah and Larissa!
Rachel,
It was a tough week...a hockey thing (which I know you can appreciate) between me and a coach. He did something that was really wrong...REALLY wrong and I called him on it...in front of the whole team :( Bad move on my part. Something that I'm so totally upset about. I'm not sorry for what I said to the coach...I'm only sorry I said it in front of the kids. It's been a long week.
That being said, I had a great time with the boys this week and it flew by which is unusual for February break!
Happy 13 to your son!
parenting is the hardest job in the world...lots of mistakes...but lots of love...
happy 13th to him,and hugs to mom~
Happy Birthday to your 13 year old... mine is turning 15 in a month and we have hit some major challenges...
We go forward in love and trust and hope that all we have done for the last 14 years has made some impact.
We ask for help. we surround ourselves with good friends and family.
I am with you on the journey.
Parenting is a tough job – we all make mistakes. Sometimes I think it is good for our kids to see those mistakes. Makes for a good teachable moment – we have an opportunity to discuss with them how we could have handled things a little different. Anyways, I think you are a great Mom! Happy birthday, Matt!
Happy birthday to Matt!

oh yes... parenting. it. is. exhausting. and trying. and everything in between.
i dropped libby and andrew off at swimming tonight... upset with both of them for fighting. and for an hour i felt terrible that i dropped them off while mad at them! i am sure it won't be the last time... but i spent an hour feeling guilty and apologizing when i picked them up... what the hell? now it is my fault?! ha.
now i know why God invented wine. :)
Aw, so sweet! Happy belated. I hope it was a great one.
