Busy, Busy, Busy

Sorry for the long time between posts. We went to Philadelphia last weekend and are leaving soon for another adventure. My job this week has been to unpack and then repack. I can't wait to get to our destination so I can relax! Sights from the previous weekend included...
A visit to the Liberty Bell!

and then on to Freedom Hall. Having watched the movie National Treasure recently the boys were anxious to see this. Plus we are all history geeks in our home. Visiting Freedom Hall left tingles down my spine! The main reason we travelled to Philly was to view the King Tut exhibition. The Franklin Institute is not that bad either!Always a must when you visit a city with water and history...a Duck Tour! Have to say I enjoyed Boston's ride on the Charles better than Philly's ride on the Delaware. Scary current happening in the Delaware River.Four hours in the car, one way enabled me to finish another pair of socks!

I need to finish packing for the next family adventure. Will be computer less for the next week in a half. See you after Labor Day!

Lord Stanley's Cup! (Skip Right Along If You Are Not a Hockey Fan)

It was an exciting weekend for us hockey fans. The Stanley Cup, hockey's highest honor came to visit Central New York. If you don't know the tradition of the cup it goes like this: each member of the team that wins the Stanley Cup Championship gets to have the Cup in their possession for 24 hours. No other professional team has a tradition like this. It is very special to the players and the fans. Legend has it that if you are a hockey player you are not to touch the cup if you ever have hopes of winning it.
It was unusual for this player to bring it back to his Alma Mater. Most players take it to their hometown for the day. I would like to say that this is a once and a lifetime event for my kids, but so many young men from this area are on very good NHL teams that this is a reoccurring event around this part of New York. Just last year the Cup was in Oswego, NY which isn't far from us either.
It's nice to see this happen. It gives my guys a good role model to look up to and something to dream about when they are hating practices. Thanks Lord Stanley!

672!

That's how many more people are in front of me before I get my invite to Ravelry! The next couple of days will be filled with pictures of previous finished projects so I am ready to go when the invitation arrives! So excited!
The cropped cardigan is a pattern from Blue Sky Alpacas. Same yarn and colorway they used. Size 34. I am not a very imaginative knitter as you will see. I usually use the yarn that is called for and change it up on the color. It works for me.
Tiger socks were requested by Ryan when he was a preschooler. He wore them almost everyday! He is now 8 and is into fingerless handwarmers. I have lost count on how many pairs that I have made for him. Although, he is now requesting a new pair of socks.
Matt wants a sweater for the winter. I hesitate making him one since the last one I made him was too itchy for him. It was never worn. I think I probably will stick with hats for him.
Off to the beach today, where I don't have to constantly split the boys apart. Countdown to school has begun for me!

Wondering

We are off to Philadelphia next week for a few days with the boys. I know not many people read this blog, but if you do and have any interesting tips or places to visit I would appreciate the suggestions. My husband nor I have ever visited Philly and don't know much about the city. I guess we are all off on a big adventure!
Here is another picture of Ryan. He cracks me up sometimes!

This and That

This past weekend we traveled up north to visit with long time friends. The weather was picture perfect and everyone had a wonderful time. We swam, fished and then swam some more. I forget how pretty the lake looks and how close we really are to it.

I was able to get some knitting in which is good because I only have about 1,000 people ahead of me until I get my invite to Ravelry. I feel sorry for the 14,000 behind me!Hopefully I will have two complete socks in the next couple of days. I am knitting my standard pattern so it should go pretty quickly.
That's it for today. I want to say hi to the one reader that visits everyday during the week. I know I am not as exciting as other bloggers out there but I appreciate the time you spend stopping by!

A Long Week

Matt, my 10 year old, has been at hockey camp this week. It was quite an honor to attend, as only certain kids were asked to skate. The camp was taught by a Ukranian, who travels the Northeast US to teach hockey to young Americans. The coach brings 10-15 Ukranian kids with him so they can be introduced to American culture.
Matt has had a good week. He was the second youngest of all the kids so he was a bit nervous going on Monday. He soon realized that kids are kids no matter where they live on the globe. It was a great cultural exchange for the children. Not sure I could put Matt on a plane, send him halfway around the world knowing only three words. But I guess for the Ukrainian kids this shows them a bigger world and an option out of their poor country.
I am thankful for the coaches Matt has had so far in hockey. This guy was a yeller and tough. Not to say tough isn't what I want for Matt. It's good experience for him, but let's face it, he probably isn't NHL material!
I have a hard time when other hockey parents come to us and tell us that he has talent and we should push him more. Do I really want this for my son? What is my goal of having him play sports? It isn't to achieve a scholarship to college (although that would be nice) and it isn't to go on to greatness in hockey or baseball (his other sport). I just want both my boys to understand what playing on a team feels like. The drive, dedication, sacrifice, teamwork that all comes when playing a team sport.
So now we can rest until October when hockey begins again...and just be a plain old kid!

well, hello there...

I thought I might start writing again.  Not sure what I will want to talk about.  The guys have their own lives and are making...
