It was an exciting weekend for us hockey fans. The Stanley Cup, hockey's highest honor came to visit Central New York. If you don't know the tradition of the cup it goes like this: each member of the team that wins the Stanley Cup Championship gets to have the Cup in their possession for 24 hours. No other professional team has a tradition like this. It is very special to the players and the fans. Legend has it that if you are a hockey player you are not to touch the cup if you ever have hopes of winning it.
It was unusual for this player to bring it back to his Alma Mater. Most players take it to their hometown for the day. I would like to say that this is a once and a lifetime event for my kids, but so many young men from this area are on very good NHL teams that this is a reoccurring event around this part of New York. Just last year the Cup was in Oswego, NY which isn't far from us either.
It's nice to see this happen. It gives my guys a good role model to look up to and something to dream about when they are hating practices. Thanks Lord Stanley!
