Photography 101...

Okay, here they are. Eggs! and just in time for Spring and Easter. Oh, and the photography class that I'm taking. Sure, how hard can it be to photograph an egg? Plenty hard is my thinking.

First up, white egg on black. I was taking these in the middle of homework assignments and making dinner, hence the picture of President Bush #1. (My 10 year old is doing a state report on Maine.) It was a bright day and the white of the egg kept washing out on me. Fussed with the camera and took about 100 pictures (not really, but it felt like that.) These are my favorites.

Then, white on white. Again I was looking for a white piece of construction paper that wasn't ripped or wrinkled.

After that, I was home free and had some fun. Brown on orange.

Outside in the garden. Perfect for Springtime!

All around the yard!

And of course, overlooking Upper Pond.

This was a great lesson on framing and light. I'm still not the best at figuring out what speed etc...to use but I think I'm getting there.

I love your photography lesson. Since I plan on learning vicariously through you, please post more of your pictures.

Many thanks for your inspiration. I shall try it, but in my neck of the woods, winds will be forty miles per hour tomorrow. Too windy for many pictures.

Oh, wow! Yours is the first assignment I have come to. Your white eggs are exposed so beautifully and I love the shadows. And your brown egg really got around in style. I like the brown on orange, very subtle. Very lovely photos and sweet pup.

Haha, I read "a great lesson on farming and light", but it works that way too! I guess these are your own eggs? A dream of mine. How many chickens do you have? Or is it hens? Sorry, my English is not farm work approved.

Hello!

Great photos. The stone in yard with the egg and the photos over looking Upper Pond are ones that really jump out at me. The white egg and moss is stunning.

Isn't a great learning process.

I love the shot of the egg on the rock - perfect symmetry and yet a juxtaposition of hard and "soft". Lovely photos.

Hi anna, Not my chickens, my neighbors. I don't want to shovel chicken poop and enough of my neighbors raise chickens that I reap the benefits. I'm taking pictures of eggs for a photo class. Glad you enjoyed them.

Ha! That last is my favorite! They always want in on the action, those doggies, don't they? If only my kids were as willing to get into shots... oh well. Good for you, taking a class - I already thought you were a great photographer!

They are great shots, especially the dog at the end!

Amazing how different an egg can look in different settings, but equally sublime in each. Love the mossy stone and egg -- such a rich contrast.

Jane, first of all I think you did such a creative job with your eggs. I have looked at them several times. Your lighting is really interesting, I like how mixed the focus, very nice. Love the tripstych outside....and the one with your dog.

Really nice! The ones in the crocus look like they're waiting to be found by little hands. It seems that there are SOO many ways to approach this assignment. I love that you took yours outside on a nature study and invited your dog to come.

Many beautiful photos. I specially like how you can see the "texture" of the egg on the black and white photos and the first colour photo.

I think you did amazing with this assignment...I particularly like the top and bottom picture of your white on white set. The exposure is perfect and the shadows really add an interesting dimension. It looks like you had a blast showing the eggs around your property...great photo shoot!

These are really good (makes me feel a little incompetant, but that's why I'm taking the course!). Anyhow, your white on whites are FAB, and I really like the picture of the egg balanced on a rock. Actually, they are all good. You did a wonderful job!

I had no idea how involved it could be to take egg pictures. That being said, these are some fine examples. Of course, I especially love the last one.

Well done, Jane! What an excellent experiment. Amazing how you were able to capture the contours, especially of the white egg.

I love your use of shadowing on your egg, not just the shadow created by the egg. Wonderful compositions! My fav is the middle pic on black of the first collage.

Hi Jane,
Fun to meet you from your 5 things post. I especially loved the pictures you took outside. Eggs and crocuses really go together! Love the rock picture and it's a very pretty grid grouping too. You did really well and your dog seems to think so too.
