New Threads

I love skirts in the summer! Nothing beats throwing on a cotton skirt, flip flops and relaxing! Last summer I couldn't find any skirts that I liked. The mini was back and I am way past my prime for a mini! I've been looking at this pattern for a long time and finally decided to make it. I'm so glad I did. It took about an hour from start to finish and is so easy and comfortable. Many more will be made in the coming weeks!

Last week was a girlfriend's birthday. I whipped up this springy bag as a gift. It didn't come out as planned but still worked well as a gift bag for the daffodils. Again, this bag should be quick to make, but my brain wasn't on correctly that day. I have a few more of these to create. Hopefully, they will go quicker this time!

Yesterday our school district had its second bomb threat of the spring season. The high school and middle school went into lockdown. It's a sad commentary of our times when our school children have to sit in a corner of their classroom, doors and windows locked, anticipating what might come next. I asked my son if he was scared (as he should be). He told me that his legs felt like rubber until his teacher told them that it was another threat. I asked him why that changed things for him and he responded that he was glad that it wasn't a man with a gun. Homeschooling is looking better and better everyday.

He went off to school today grumbling that it better not happen again. He had a project that he wanted to present and the new ocean unit was starting in science.

My lilac is showing signs of life. Spring may just come when we're not looking!

I love your skirt; I think I could handle that pattern.

And it is a sad commentary on our times that anyone in a school has to endure that. My daughter is at UNC-Chapel Hill and today they are testing out a new alarm system (Alert Carolina)that means an armed intruder is on campus - lock the door to the classroom and wait for the police/swat team! On the one hand I am happy that the university is addressing the potential, on the other hand it is terrifying!

jane, your skirt and nature photos are a nice lift to your very sad post.
i'm sorry that matt had to endure a bomb threat. i can only imagine how frightening that must have been.
times really have changed, i suppose.
at least the seasons will remain constant and we have comfort in knowing your lilac will again flourish.

How heartbreaking that your son felt like that! It's so sad what our kids have to endure in this day & age. I totally am with you about contemplating homeschooling... I'll take it one step further and admit that sometimes I think about running for the hills in a remote country far far away. Ahh well...

Anyway, the skirt is so cute and is just the perfect length. I have trouble with finding 'the right skirt' as well and love to wear them. ... great job!

OH, I wish I could sew!!! (That darn bobbin thing has me swearing every time. Well, it doesn't take much, if I'm perfectly honest, to get me swearing, but you know what I mean. I cannot do the bobbin for love or money.) But I LOVE that skirt and am so with you on everything you said about skirts!

Bummer about the bomb scares! What is UP with that?! Geez!

Just hopped over from a comment you left on Madmad's blog. What a gorgeous skirt! I have learning to sew on my 101 things to do list. I really wish I could sew like that.

well, hello there...

I thought I might start writing again.  Not sure what I will want to talk about.  The guys have their own lives and are making...
