5 things...

Someone forgot to tell Mother Nature that it's winter.  Today's weather is something that we don't usually see until late March or early April.  I discovered a primrose in my garden and the crocuses are almost ready to bloom.  Normally, I'm shovelling snow off my garden in hopes that it will thaw out by the end of April.
Rumor has it that the local ski hill will close this week.  Too many accidents and not cold enough to make snow.  So far, I haven't skied once this season and by the looks of it I'm not going to.
So, it's on to a new week and some new thoughts....
 1.  We stayed home for the Superbowl this year....and I liked it that way.  I made plenty of food, we could watch in our comfortable clothes and enjoy the commercials (although, I really didn't like any of them) without listening through the noise of a party!  Perfect!
 2.  Matt has two more weeks of hockey! I really can't count this week as he is missing a few games due to a trip to Quebec with fellow French students.
 3.  I'm thinking it's going to feel strange not to have Matt around for the weekend.
 4.  I need some new recipes that my family might enjoy.  If you have any ideas let me know in the comments.  I'm feeling sorta stale with my old stand-bys.
5.  Lastly, do you follow any celebrities on Twitter?  I've been laughing at Katie Couric's and Steve Martin's  tweets.  Sometimes I wonder if Katie's are really hers or her PR person.  Steve Martin's are definitely his.  Such dry, witty humor.
Who do you follow?

enjoy your week everyone!

A lot of the ski places around us are bordering on closing, too. So many accidents, you're right. It's so sad, though - can you imagine if that was your business? Probably a lot of sleepless nights! We have one more trip planned (most of the others have been canceled for lack of snow, obviously) and I'm hoping it works out! Will put my thinking cap on for some recipes, but I'm LOVING Mellssa Clark's cookbooks, if your kids are even slightly adventurous. (Not even, really, really adventurous.) Everything is easy, but tastes new and different.

I don't know your dinner preferences, so I'm opting to go all over the board here... I haven't made them in ages, but when you mentioned cooking for your family the old school sloppy joe of my childhood popped into my mind. How about some good old fashioned sloppy joes? I haven't tried this, but I will soon: http://www.thewednesdaychef.com/the_wednesday_chef/2009/01/melissa-clarks-roasted-broccoli-with-shrimp.html I've made this a few times. It is tasty and different. Japanese comfort food: http://www.teaandcookiesblog.com/2009/11/the-comfort-of-japanese-curry.html

if your boys like tex mex:

leftover or rotisserie chicken
flour tortillas
chedder and monterray jack cheese , shredded
greek yogurt
salsa
cilantro
scallions
sliced black olives
1 box jiffy cornbread mix, optional

create sauce by adding salsa to greek yogurt until medium pink color, or taste as you mix

in 8x8 (or 9x9) pan coat bottom w/ sauce
trim tortilla with scissors to fit, using odd pieces to fill in corners
add shredded chicken
top with scallions, cilantro, olives(drained well)
add layer of cheeses
add sauce, a few dollups, spread slightly, not too thick
continue layering this way
now your last layer can be cheese or for a really great top layer you can make a box of jiffy cornbread mix and cover the top with that, making sure it goes right to the edge of the pan
...if you use the cornbread, do not add the sauce to the top layer or it takes forever to cook through

it's sort of a tex mex shepherds pie, my kids love it
btw love your blog

well, hello there...

I thought I might start writing again.  Not sure what I will want to talk about.  The guys have their own lives and are making...
